The legend of this house, with its famous balcony, originates in the first dialogue of Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet", one of the most represented scenes in the history of theatre. In fact, popular belief identifies Shakespeare's Capulets with the Del Cappello family, a noble family that owned the property for a long time (from the 13th century) whose coat of arms is carved on the inner arch of the courtyard.
Over the centuries this house has become one of the symbols of Verona, a daily destination for hundreds of visitors from all over the world, who want to pay homage to love.
The medieval residence, painfully restored by Antonio Avena at the beginning of the 20th century, has a beautiful exposed brick interior façade, a Gothic-style portal, three-lobed windows, a balustrade that connects the various bodies of the house from the outside and, of course, the famous balcony. Inside are exhibited furnishings of the XVI-XVII century, frescoes related to the events of Romeo and Juliet and Renaissance ceramics from Verona. The halls on the top floor are covered by a three-lobed wooden ceiling, with coffers painted in blue and golden stars.
In the courtyard, which is always open to the public, is placed the bronze statue of Juliet by Nereo Costantini.
