The Notary's Chapel is the most prestigious setting of the ancient Palazzo del Comune di Verona, also called Palazzo della Ragione.
The majestic building located in the southeast corner of the ancient Roman forum, between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori, was built in the last years of the 12th century to accommodate the new magistratures of the Municipality. Over the centuries, Palazzo della Ragione was the hub of the city’s political power, housing in its large rooms the College of Notaries, the Dazio della Seta, the Fiscal Chamber, the Cassa di Risparmio, the District Court and the Assize Court.
The Chapel of the Notary is located on the first floor of what was then the Tower of the Masseria, built between 1408 and 1419 on behalf of the Venerable College of Notary, who dedicated it to Saints Zeno and Daniel. It is home to one of the most important decorative complexes made on public commission in the history of the city.
It consists of four communicating rooms covered with vaulted vaults set on a Gothic arch, decorated with large lunette-shaped canvas paintings and oval paintings fixed at times, made by the Veronaese Alessandro Marchesini, Giambattista Bellotti, Santo Prunati and by the Frenchman Louis Dorigny at the turn of the eighteenth century. The nineteenth-century coating that decorates the walls is also worth mentioning.
No more than 40 people are allowed to enter the Notary's Chapel for the wedding ceremony.
The reservation relates exclusively to the room chosen for the time indicated. The access route to the hall is defined due to the coincidence of events and may be subject to changes even at the last moment.
