The Teatro Nuovo was inaugurated on 12th September 1846 with an opera never performed in Verona: Attila, whose world premiere had also taken place that year at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.
Enrico Storari's project has a neoclassical style: the main facade, on Piazza Viviani, is dominated by a white stone colonnade.
The hall is Italian style with two orders of boxes and columns in Ionic style, a balcony and a gallery.
It can hold up to 834 spectators. T
he theatre has a small foyer, which is accessed mainly from Piazzetta Navona, today called Piccolo Teatro di Giulietta which leads to the courtyard of Juliet's House.
Another peculiarity of the Teatro Nuovo is the terrace of over 200 square meters, adjacent to the famous Juliet's balcony, which overlooks the same courtyard.
Today it hosts events of all kinds ranging from music to dance, from concerts to cabaret and musicals to conferences and cultural meetings.
Among the many activities that the Teatro Nuovo hosts, the shows included in the Il Grande Teatro and Divertiamoci a Teatro shows stand out.
In 2005 the Teatro Nuovo became the headquarters of the Atlantide Teatro Stabile Foundation of Verona, with the recognition of the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities of Teatro Stabile.
Since 2028 it has also been a Theater Production Center and since 2015 it has obtained the recognition of National Theatre.
