Enrico Noris (Verona, 29th August 1631 - Rome, 23rd February 1704) was a historian and a cardinal under Pope Innocent XII; he was awarded the title of St. Augustine and he was a librarian of the Vatican Library. His original and subversive approach to the Augustinian philosophy cost him acrimonious controversies and the indictment of Baianism and Jansenism: due to this charge, his works were banned by the Church.
The statue was erected in the first quarter of the 18th century. It was originally located in the Augustinian convent of St. Euphemia.
The author was Domenico Aglio, called the Hunchback (1665-1715). The statue is in mediocre conditions. The monument enjoys a good heritage promotion as it is placed on the arch between “palazzo della Ragione” and “palazzo dei Giudici”. The statue hasn’t got artificial lighting.
