St. Martino's Cathedral has been mentioned since the first half of the twelfth century. Rebuilt between the end of the fourteenth century and the beginning of the fifteenth century, it was demolished in 1802. Between 1779 and 1816 the present church was built in another location, namely on a land which was previously occupied by a Convent of Minor Friars of St. Antonio (demolished in 1777). The church consecration took place on 5th March 1816.
The exterior of the building is a hut facade facing north-east. The bell tower leans against the north side of the Holy Virgin's Oratory, next to the Cathedral. The interior of the building has a Latin cross plan, with a large rectangular hall, a crosstransept flanked by semicircular side wings, a deep presbytery with a semicircular apse; along the walls of the hall eight side semi-chapels contain the altars of St. John the Baptist, St. Antonio from Padua and St. Joseph on the north side and the altars of the Souls, Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Anna and the Blessed on the opposite side.
There are semi-columns adorned with Corinthian capitals down the aisle; the walls of the presbytery are adorned with Corinthian pilaster strips; there are niches with statues in the walls of the hall; the transept chapels are adorned with frescoes painted by Agostino Pegrassi in 1948; the nineteenth century altarpiece representing the "Intercession of St. Martino Bishop" is placed in the center of the apse wall.
The nave is covered by a wide barrel semi-elliptical vault, adorned with tempera decorations; the presbytery is dominated by a hemispherical canopy decorated with frescoes of the local painter Pietro Merlo; the Good Shepherd was painted in the apse basin by Agostino Pegrassi (1948). The interior covering is made of a wooden and tile structure. The nave is paved with rectangular and square slabs made of Verona red marble and white stone; the presbytery paving features a geometric polychrome marble pattern.
