La Meridiana of Negrar is a curious and modern monument that, inspired by the principles of kinetic art, allows to know the timetable and some details of the calendar following a calculation methodology, that of the sundial, which has millennia of history at its shoulders.
Built in 2008 by an Italian architect, Giuseppe Ferlenga, the Monumental Meridian of Negrar consists of a porphyry base, around which it was decided to install a decoration in local Prun stone.
The shape of La Meridiana of Negrar is decidedly atypical with respect to the classic sundials: it is seven meters high, while the wind rudder, painted white inside and moved by the action of the wind to an extent to understand its direction, has a total diameter of five meters. The weight of the whole structure is around two tons.
In addition to providing the time according to the movement of the sun, the position of the sun in the South and the direction of the wind, the Monumental Meridiana of Negrar is also useful for calculating the equinoxes of autumn and spring and the solstices of summer and winter. In order to better understand its operation, a plate with "instructions for use" is installed on the base.
