Conceived to allow the troops to go indoors, even during bad weather; started in 1610 by Domenico Curtoni (relative and disciple of Michele Sanmicheli), the work was suspended due to lack of funds and was completed around the middle of the 19th century by Giuseppe Barbieri.
The lower floor is rusticated (many stones come from the Arena) and has a portico with thirteen arches; on the main floor there are some large windows, separated by twin columns, with alternating triangular and curvilinear frontispieces; it is currently used as a conference and exhibition centre.
