It is one of the symbols of the city of Verona and is located in the centre of Piazza Erbe.
The structure was erected at the behest of Cansignorio Della Scala, to celebrate the success of the hydraulic work of bringing water from the Lorì river of Avesa stream to the Piazza. It is composed of assembled pieces from Roman times, such as the large thermal bath and the statue, coming from the Capitolium, which is rumoured that was all gold.
The statue holds a scroll in his hands that bears the old motto of the municipality: "To this city, bearer of justice and lover of praise".
