Cinema Teatro David

Recently rebuilt from the foundations, the Cinema Teatro David constitutes an important cultural structure in the southern outskirts of the city. In addressing the reconstruction of the Cinema Teatro as a Community Hall, the Parish of S. Giovanni Battista of Ca' di David intended to express its will to enter into dialogue with the social fabric in which it is inserted, creating an ideal bridge between the communities that inhabit the same neighborhood.

The building in minimalist style, with a very careful architectural design, is a valuable quality urban insertion in the neighborhood, which has long since abandoned the traditional rural building structures, to assume the classic aspect of the suburbs. With its important volumetry and a result of careful study, it establishes a harmonious link between the neoclassical building of the Parish Church and the surrounding urban fabric.

The walls covered, in the upper part, by an irregular brick cladding make the new building modern, but also emphasize its load of history and represent a quote, not too hidden, of the old parish church, remained officiated from 1400 to 1853. The ground floor, facing Piazza Roma, is characterized by large windows, which create an ideal dialogue between exterior and interior and makes good the role of meeting place assumed by the theater, placed on the same level, the Piazza extends ideally inside the theater and this expands to the public space in front.

Above the door a nice bow-window houses the historic cinema projector in use since September 1956, discreet memory of the vicissitudes of the theatre, established in the mid-20s, since January 15, 1934 also used as a cinema, destroyed by one of the last events of the Second World War, promptly rebuilt, with the help of all the population in 1949.

After going through the golden years of the great popularity of the Cinema, recognized with the names of Cinema Patronato, then Cinema Parrocchiale and, then, Cinema Garden, in 2017 it resumed business with the prestigious label of Cinema Teatro David, chosen following a popular consultation. With its 245 seats and state-of-the-art technological equipment it offers the possibility of an excellent enjoyment of any kind of entertainment.
