The Montresor Winery is a winery of historical excellence in the Verona area, just 4 kilometers from the Arena.
A story born from afar, when in 1600 the Montresor family from France moved to Verona, in the countryside of Bussolengo. The adventure, with the official birth certificate of the Cellars, began in 1892, when Gaetano Montresor bought a small cellar in the countryside west of the city, and decided to name it after his son Giacomo. At the end of the First World War, driven by Italians emigrating to North America, the demand for Veronese wines grew overseas, and in 1921 the Satinata was born, a light bottle, which recalls the typical shape of the fiasco and which is able to protect the wine during the long ocean crossing. In 1930 a large plot was purchased at the gates of Valpolicella, where the factory still stands.
In the tragic years of the Second World War, the Cellar was occupied by the German army and all production activity was suspended. In 1946, following the birth of the Republic, the Montresor Winery started again, under the leadership of the founder's son, Bruno Montresor, who was appointed Commander in 1958 by the President of the Italian Republic Gronchi.
The following years marked a rapid rise of the wine market, thanks to technological innovation and new products launched on the market, culminating in the creation in 1967 of the Vinitaly trade fair, in which Montresor Winery participates since its birth.
The historic winery is located in Parona di Valpolicella and occupies an area of 12,000 square meters. of which over 8000 covered and destined for production. Of the latter, about 2800 square meters are underground cellars for the refinement and aging of great red wines, while the granaries that house the withered grapes necessary for the production of wines such as Recioto and Amarone, occupy an area of about 1000 square meters. Every year the production is around 3,500,000 bottles, with 60% that is exported abroad, where Montresor wines have been present in 55 countries of the world for several decades.
The production favors the typical wines of Verona and Veneto: Soave, Valpolicella, Bardolino, Bianco di Custoza and Lugano but especially Valpolicella Ripasso and Amarone.
