Cesare Battisti (Trento, 4th February 1875– 12th July 1916) was an Italian patriot and politician. In his program he always supported the administrative autonomy of Trentino from the Austro- Hungarian Empire. In 1911 he was elected Member of Parliament in Vienna. During the First World War he fought in Italian army for this reason he was considered a traitor by the Austrian government and he was captured and sentenced to death.
The monument is composed of a marble slab with a shallow niche, where the bronze bust is located; the patriot is depicted with an open shirt to challenge his executioners with this attitude. The work was made by the sculptor Tullio Montini between 1920 and 1930. The monument is in a good condition and it is well valued, although it hasn’t got artificial lighting.
