Located on the west side of Piazza Bra, the Liston, a word of Venetian origin, is the wide sidewalk that connects Corso Porta Nuova to Via Mazzini. Named for its large slabs of stone from Valpolicella, which contains some sea creatures dating back to the Jurassic period, this walking area is well known to the Veronese at weekends (in fact, it is said in the Veronese dialect: far do vasche sul liston) and makes up one of the most famous lounges in the city.
Populated with bars and restaurants that overlook it, you can also admire many splendid mansions including Palazzo Ottolini Vaccari, designed by Michelangelo Castellazzi and completed in 1814; Palazzo Honori, then Guastaverza, then Malfatti, designed by Michele Sanmicheli in the mid-sixteenth century and Palazzo Fracasso-Giafilippi, dating back to the fifteenth century, from which Giuseppe Garibaldi greeted the Veronese at the balcony on 8 March 1867.
