Mario Merz. The number is a living animal

The Modern Art Gallery Achille Forti hosts, after the success of the first collaboration with Art Verona, in which the works of Giulio Paolini were exhibited, some of the most representative works of the Milanese artist Mario Merz, exponent of the current of poor art.

Thanks to loans from the collaboration with the Merz Foundation, it will be possible to admire the archetypal elements that constantly return to the artist’s work.

A key figure of Arte Povera and internationally known, Mario Merz has made the interpenetration between work and environment the focal point of his research. The reflection around the cyclical nature of things in the artist's poetics does not only concern space but also and above all time. The dark and enigmatic shapes of the prehistoric animals stand out on the white of the support as sudden apparitions from a distant geological era, becoming the emblem of a formal register that draws on a remote and ancestral imagination, able to lead the spectator back to a pre-rational dimension of existence.

An exhibition, curated by Patrizia Nuzzo and Stefano Raimondi, that is a unique opportunity to admire the iconic works of Mario Merz in an unprecedented setting that does not limit itself to dialogue with the environment, but turns it into an imaginary space, from which every form expands and proliferates as part of a mysterious process of transformation.
