A new exhibition, dedicated to the fascinating world of terracotta images, is hosted in the room dedicated to temporary exhibitions of the Archaeological Museum at the Roman Theater until 27th April 2025.
The exhibition curated by Margherita Bolla reveals some of the 380 terracotta figurines preserved at the Archaeological Museum not usually displayed to the public. These are images coming from the Verona area and belonging to private collections which then merged into the collections of the Civic Museums of Verona.
You will admire statuettes symbolizing offerings in sanctuaries, requests for grace from the gods or homage for a grace already received.
Also on display are figurines of children, or representations of individual parts of the body (arms, hands, feet), linked to the sphere of the divine as invocations for good health, fertility or protection for the success of a journey.
One section is dedicated to domestic animals and another to all-round statuettes depicting divinities, used both in sanctuaries and in domestic environments or in grave goods.
Finally, the last section displays the finds from the Menà di Castagnaro kiln, where production ranged from bricks, to decorated loom weights, to pipes and architectural antefixes.
The exhibition can be visited from Tuesday and Wednesday from 2.00pm to 6.00pm, from Thursday to Sunday from 10.00am to 6.00pm (last entry at 5.30pm). Closed on Mondays.
