On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the UNESCO recognition of Verona as a World Heritage City, the Department of Culture, Tourism, and Entertainment, Office for the Conservation and Promotion of the UNESCO site of the Municipality, in collaboration with the Green Committee, is organizing a series of events at the Scarpa Battery of San Zeno in Monte.
The Scarpa Battery of San Zeno in Monte is a small masterpiece of military architecture designed by the Habsburg architect Franz von Scholl and built in 1840. Located just above Alto San Nazaro, its construction integrates with the defensive works of the Scaliger and Venetian forts, taking inspiration from the circular shape of Venetian rondelles.
After a series of works that have seen a wide network of collaborations within the Habitat – Naturazioni project of the Cariverona Foundation, which the Municipality leads, the renovated Scarpa Battery will be inaugurated on Saturday, March 15, at 11:00 AM, as a space available for cultural initiatives and as a hall for public meetings, with the presence of the Councillor for Culture, Tourism, and UNESCO - Municipality of Verona, Marta Ugolini, and the architect in charge of the works at the Scarpa Battery, Andrea Bernardelli. The subsequent meetings on March 22 and April 12, also at 11:00 AM, are dedicated to the presentations of two volumes on UNESCO topics: "Guide to the tunnels of the walls of Verona" and "Tocatì. A City to Play" and the project on the underground heritage of the Veronese Speleological Commission "Artificial Speleology: explorations and documentation of the fortified systems of Verona."
Free entry to all events.
