As in 2024, a journey into ancient music is proposed through three lessons, during which you will be able to listen to musical pieces performed live.
In the first meeting Virginia Salvatore will retrace the history of the harp, a fascinating stringed instrument whose remote origins date back to ancient Egypt and which has become the national instrument of Ireland.
In the second meeting in the choir of the church of Santa Maria Maddalena (formerly part of a Franciscan convent) the melodies that marked the life of the friars minor will be revived. Giacomo Contro will retrace the history of Gregorian chant. In this journey to rediscover the oldest sacred music in the world, we will talk about its birth, its evolution and use in the liturgy and beyond, from the first Christians to the present day, with insights into the history of notation, way of singing it and its use.
In the last meeting, the Banshees Vocal Group, directed by Virginia Del Bianco, will propose a musical journey from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance in Europe with profane songs, taken for example from Carmina Burana, and sacred pilgrimage songs and in honor of the Virgin Mary.
The meetings will be held at 5.00 pm at the Santa Maria Maddalena Auditorium (Isola della Scala, via Roma 35)
Before each meeting the archaeological museum will be open to visitors from 3.00 pm. At 4.00 pm you can follow a free guided tour.
Free entry.
